Real Sociedad vs Sporting Gijon Predictions
The Spanish top flight got off to a very quiet start in terms of goals and everything here points to this being another low scoring game.
Sporting Gijon had by some distance the best defence in the Segunda Division last season and it was the main reason they were promoted as going forward, they had the worst goalscoring record of the sides that finished in the top six. Real Sociedad were also quite a cautious side and finished with the best defensive record in the bottom half of La Liga but often struggled to break sides down.
Both clubs were involved in goalless draws on the opening weekend of this season. Sporting Gijon picked up an excellent point by preventing Real Madrid from scoring for 90 minutes and although they rarely threatened themselves would have been delighted with the result. Sociedad meanwhile drew 0-0 at Deportivo in a game which won’t live long in the memory but they won’t have been too disappointed by the result.
The pressure will be on the hosts to take this game to the newly promoted side but it’s not something they are great at doing. Sporting Gijon don’t possess much quality going forward and will draw blanks regularly this season there looks to be excellent value at Evens in backing there to be 2 or fewer goals here and at least one of the clubs to fail to score.
Sociedad are the better side though and are usually strong at the Anoeta, where they picked up the vast majority of their points last season so they should just nick this game. More is expected of David Moyes’ side this term but Sporting aren’t the sort of side to lose big so a 1-0 home win is perhaps the best bet in terms of a correct scoreline and you can back it at 5/1.
