River Plate vs Banfield Predictions
- River have won 5 of their last 6 Superliga Argentina matches.
- 2 of River’s last 3 wins have also featured under 2.5 goals.
- Banfield are currently unbeaten in 9 Superliga outings.
- Banfield haven’t conceded a single goal in their last 7 away games.
River looking to stay top
With just 4 matches left to play, the Superliga title is looking ever closer for River Plate. Having not won the domestic title since 2014, it was a big aim for Los Millonarios coming into the campaign and currently 3 points ahead of arch rivals Boca Juniors, it’s certainly theirs to lose.
Thus far in 2020, Marcelo Gallardo’s troops have held their nerve, winning all 4 of their league outings; making it 12 victories from 19 matches overall this season. This weekend’s clash with Banfield certainly won’t be an easy one and does look like a potential banana skin but there can be no doubting that if they play to their maximum; River have more than enough quality to get the job done.
Banfield looking to remain unbeaten
Meanwhile, after a dreadful start to the campaign, Banfield have really picked up form back under the watch of Julio Falcioni. Though they come into the weekend in 15th place, they’ve been one of the more impressive outfits in the Superliga in recent weeks, currently unbeaten in 9 matches, of which they’ve won 4.
El Taladro are looking particularly solid on the road and that bodes well for this trip to the Monumental. Indeed, Banfeild haven’t conceded a single goal in a staggering 7 away matches and that kind of defensive solidarity leaves their prospects looking bright going into Sunday’s game.
River are favourites but a tight game is expected
Sunday’s game is a huge one for River as they enter the final straight in the race for the title but if they could pick an opponent to face this weekend, it cwouldn’t be Banfield. The visitors don’t have the same quality as the hosts man for man but are looking a very organised outfit that will pose a big challenge for River.
All things considered, backing a River win in combination with the under 2.5 goal line looks by far the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do. It’s hard to see Banfield being on the end of a heavy defeat in their current form but River should have just enough firepower to grind out a narrow 1-0 win.
