Ajax have had a messy start

Ajax would have had high hopes of getting back to the top of Eredivisie this season after finishing third last year, 13 points behind champions Feyenoord last season, but the new campaign has been a tale of woe and things may get even worse at RKC Waalwijk on Saturday.

The Amsterdam outfit plumbed a new low on Wednesday when they were humbled 4-0 at home by their arch-rivals from Rotterdam and their defence has looked particularly shaky in recent weeks.

Ordinarily they would be taken to bounce straight back at RKC, but their weekend opponents look to have turned the corner after their own poor start and have won their last two matches.

Those successes should spur them on and, although it may not look pretty, there is a good chance that they will avoid defeat against their visitors from the capital.

RKC should not be underestimated

RKC will probably relish the chance to play Ajax as they have shown life in recent weeks.

The began the season with four consecutive losses in which they conceded 13 goals, but a 2-0 victory at Vitesse got them up and running and they build upon that impressive success with a 1-0 win over Twente.

Take a chance they can build on that victory and claim a win by the same scoreline against Ajax.
