Roda JC vs Telstar Predictions

Things were starting to look up for Roda JC after wins against Jong Utrecht and Helmond Sport on match day’s 12 and 13, but the Kerkrade outfit endured another blow to their promotion hopes last week as MVV ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at De Geusselt. The second half dismissal of Mario Engels added further to their woes, and Robert Molenaar’s side will be without their top scorer for this Friday’s clash with Telstar at Parkstad Limburg Stadion.

A fifth league defeat of the season in Maastricht means Roda JC sit 10th in the Eerste Divisie standings, and they are five points adrift of the top five with a significantly worse goal difference.

Although we’re only 14 matches into a 38 game campaign, Roda’s chances of returning to Eredivisie at the first time of asking appear extremely slim, and results so far suggest that mid table is just about right for Robert Molenaar’s side, who have only managed two victories this term against teams currently position in the top half (1-2 vs Almere City on match day 2, 0-1 vs Cambuur on match day 7).

Moreover, Roda have failed to make life difficult for sides at Parkstad Limburg Stadion where they’ve accrued just eight points from six outings, and most Eerste Divisie teams will feel that Molenaar’s men are beatable in Kerkrade.

Roda should find this Friday’s opposition much more manageable though, with visitors Telstar struggling to find any kind of consistency this season.

A respectable 6th last term, Telstar are currently 14th in the table after six wins and eight defeats from their 14 league matches, and the performances from Mike Snoei’s side have been erratic to say the least.

After a 0-3 mauling at home to NEC on match day 10, Telstar ran Sparta close in a 3-2 defeat before securing back to back wins against leaders Go Ahead Eagles (2-1) and FC Eindhoven (1-2). With confidence seemingly on the up, Snoei’s side battled well in the first half at home to in-form Den Bosch last week, but folded tamely in the second period to go down 1-4.

There have been three goals or more in each of Telstar’s last seven outings which says a lot about their open style of play, but whilst fixtures involving the IJmuiden outfit are often entertaining to watch, Snoei’s side are prone to receiving a hammering which makes them an unattractive betting proposition most of the time.

That’s not exactly the case here though, as they’re a huge price to land three points against a Roda side that can only seem to beat teams at the bottom of the league.

Considering Telstar have won three of their seven away games and have beaten both Go Ahead and Oss this term, it’s worth risking at the prices that they’ll put their best foot forward on Friday.

Roda look untouchable at odds-on following last week’s defeat and the fact they’ve won just two of their six home fixtures, so it’s a small stakes wager on Telstar for us with a 1-2 correct score prediction as well.
