      Roma vs Palermo Predictions

Has the real Roma finally stood up? Last season’s Serie A runners up started 2015/16 looking like genuine title contenders, they fell into a mid-season funk almost slipping out of the top five, but since a gritty, though fruitless, battle against Juventus, which they lost 1-0, they’ve strung together four straight victories in Serie A football. They weren’t quite able to carry that form over into midweek Champions League action, where they lost 2-0 at home to Real Madrid, but they start Sunday’s game against Palermo as heavy favourites.

Palermo are just four points above the relegation zone and they haven’t been able to put together a stretch of form that distances them from that battle. They did battle for a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo in their last away game, but that result was sandwiched around a pair of frustrating home defeats, 2-0 to AC Milan, and 3-1 against Torino last weekend. The frustration for Palermo isn’t necessarily only in the loss, but the feeling that this squad hasn’t been able to replicate the defence-first formula that worked so well for last season’s side, which finished in the top 10.

      Reason for Betting Tips

The odds on in-form Roma to win are generally poor and considering the different possibilities (a close or big win), we’re not too keen on playing around with the Asian Handicap mark or the Over or Under 2.5 Goals markets. However, Roma to win and BTTS NO is currently marked at 20/21, which is an excellent betting opportunity. Roma are at home and they’ve conceded just six goals in their last seven Serie A games overall, they should win this game and we’ll back them to continue clamping down and find a way to keep a clean sheet on Sunday evening.

      Head-to-Head

Unsurprisingly, Roma has the better of the historical match-ups between these two clubs, and they won the earlier clash this season 4-2 away from home. However, it is worth noting that Palermo did secure a 2-1 upset victory in Rome one year ago.

      Statistics

Palermo have scored just 10 of their 27 goals away from home this season, while Roma have conceded 12 times at home (26 overall).

      Team News

Critical creative presence Daniele de Rossi remains sidelined, though he wasn’t having a strong season anyway. Vasilis Torosidis could start for the team in-defence. Palermo will be missing starting goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino, while regular defender Archaf Lazaar is also still out. It isn’t making regaining their men-behind-the-ball identity any easier to recapture.
