Rotherham vs Peterborough Predictions
- Less than three goals have been scored in 60% of Rotherham’s home matches in League 1 this season.
- Peterborough have either failed to score or kept a clean sheet in four of their last five League 1 games.
- Rotherham rank 4th when it comes to shots conceded at home in League 1.
- Peterborough are the sixth-best team in League 1 in terms of shots on target conceded on the road.
Home improvements for Millers
Positioned in the top six, Rotherham are a strong side, a side that is very much in the promotion mix, though their recent efforts haven’t been great. Prior to their Boxing Day win at New Meadow, which is not to be sniffed at, The Millers had gone four games without tasting victory. If they’re to maintain their position inside the play-off place, then they’ll need to get better at getting their noses in front.
Rotherham have also struggled to be consistent at home this season. Paul Warne’s men have won just one of their last five at New York Stadium, where they are yet to pick up back-to-back wins. They’re not overly poor at either end of the pitch, nor are they ever well beaten, but they seem to have a habit of not being able to do enough to get the three points. Before drawing with Fleetwood when last in action at this venue, Rotherham had defended well at home, conceding just two goals in over 270 minutes of football, though they’d scored just once during that time.
Posh slipping
Peterborough, like Rotherham, are chasing promotion and currently occupy a position inside the top six, though their form of late has been slightly less than desirable. Where they were once battering teams scoring goals at will, Posh are now struggling to put their stamp on games, which is why they’ve won just one of their last four, scoring three and conceding five in the process.
Darren Ferguson’s men have scored just one goal in their last three matches and have failed to find the net in each of their last two. Given the quality in their ranks, such a blip is almost certainly temporary, but such a lack of goals is slightly worrying. Fortunately, for the most part, Peterborough have defended quite well. They’ve kept a clean sheet in three of their last five, while they shut out at a useful Bristol Rovers side when last involved on the road.
Low-scoring game on the cards?
In the betting, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ appeals at the prices. At their best, both Rotherham and Peterborough are strong sides in the final third, but neither come into this game off the back fruitful periods. Rotherham have failed to score in two of their last four at home, notching only three goals, while Posh have now failed to score in each of their last two, failing to score in two of their last three on the road. Furthermore, The Millers have either failed to score or kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven at New York Stadium, four of which have seen less than three goals go in. Overall, less than three goals have been scored in 60% of Rotherham’s home games, not to mention in four of Peterborough’s last six. Add in that Posh have either failed to score or kept a clean sheet in five of their last six and a less than high-scoring game starts to look ever so slightly more likely than the current odds suggest.
