Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in six of Salernitana’s last seven matches and the same is true for four of Genoa’s last five, suggesting that goals should be expected at both ends. The hosts have the worst defence in Serie A but have recently netted against top sides such as Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan and cost their visitors a clean sheet.

Genoa 2-1

Reason for tip

Genoa are unbeaten in five matches and recently drew with league leaders Inter Milan, suggesting they should be too strong for their hosts. Salernitana are Serie A’s bottom side, lost the reverse fixture and are ten points worse off than the visitors.

Salernitana vs Genoa Predictions

  • Genoa are unbeaten in five games, but have won only one match in that run
  • Only one of Genoa’s last eight matches have gone over 2.5 goals
  • Six of Salernitana’s last five games have seen both teams score and the same is true for four of Genoa’s last five

Basement boys can land blow

Salernitana are not having a great time of things in Serie A this season and find themselves bottom of the pile with just 12 points after 20 games, but there have been signs of promise in recent weeks.

While the results have not quite come for the Garnets as of yet – bar a draw with AC Milan and a win over Verona – their performances have been much-improved since the early part of the season.

Salernitana have scored in defeats to Napoli, Bologna, Atalanta, netted twice in their draw with the Rossoneri and also scored in back-to-back games against title-chasing Juventus – which is a marked improvement on their attacking output from earlier on in the campaign.

Those goalscoring exploits will give them confidence they can net against Genoa, even if they ultimately lose the clash.

Goals just as likely for Genoa

However, the Garnets still lay claim to the worst defensive record in Serie A – having conceded 40 goals in their 20 matches this term – and may struggle to contain Genoa, who are unbeaten in their last five games and are a strong outfit.

The visitors will likely take the points, just as they did in the reverse fixture, although that is not a guarantee as they have drawn four of the five matches in their unbeaten run and can be inconsistent.

Therefore, backing the outcome of both teams to score which has landed in four of Genoa’s last five games and six of Salernitana’s last seven looks the value play.
