Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Both Sampdoria and Lecce have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five matches, while expected goals (xG) figures show them to be Serie A’s two least creative teams. Meanwhile, Sampdoria have only scored six goals in their 14 Serie A games this term, at least four fewer than any other team.

Lecce 1-0

Reason for tip

Sampdoria have lost each of their last three games to nil, and are one of just two sides yet to pick up a home victory in Serie A this campaign. Meanwhile, Lecce beat Atalanta last time out, and may be worth backing to follow that triumph up with another success.

Sampdoria vs Lecce Predictions

  • Sampdoria’s tally of six goals is the worst in Serie A this campaign, and is at least four fewer than any other side have managed in the competition.
  • Lecce have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five games.
  • Sampdoria have only scored once in their last five league games, four of which have contained under 2.5 goals.

Serie A six-pointer awaits

Sampdoria and Lecce appear likely to be fighting it out to stay in Serie A come next May, and with the Italian top flight set to pause for the World Cup after this weekend’s set of fixtures, both will be desperate to seize their last chance to pick up points before Christmas. However, with both teams struggling in front of goal, a cagey affair is expected.

Sampdoria’s dire tally of just six goals from 14 Serie A games this season is at least four fewer than any other side have managed in the competition, and their total of 10.9 expected goals (xG) is worse than that created by all but Lecce (10.7 xG). Dejan Stankovic’s men have lost each of their last three games to nil, and have only scored once in their last five league games – four of which have contained under 2.5 goals.

As well as being Serie A’s least creative team according to xG figures, Lecce have only hit the net 12 times in their 14 league outings, and have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five contests. Meanwhile, Marco Baroni’s side have averaged fewer shots (8.79) and shots on target (2.5) per game than any other team in Serie A this campaign, and Tuesday’s shock win over Atalanta was just the second time they had hit multiple goals since returning to the top flight.

Tense affair expected

With both Sampdoria and Lecce struggling at the sharp end of the pitch, punters are advised to back under 2.5 goals to be scored in Saturday’s six-pointer.

Meanwhile, with Sampdoria losing three games on the spin and Lecce coming off the back of a shock victory over Atalanta, the visitors may be worth backing for a cagey 1-0 win.
