Sampdoria vs Venezia Predictions
- Manolo Gabbiadini has scored in three successive Serie A games for Sampdoria.
- The hosts have won three of their last five games to move clear of trouble, and beat Torino in the Coppa Italia in midweek.
- Away from home, Venezia have lost five of nine matches, and conceded more expected goals on the road than everyone but struggling Spezia and Cagliari.
Sampdoria’s revival eases their worries
Sampdoria’s run of three wins in five league games, including last week’s crucial derby victory over Genoa, has eased their relegation worries and moved them eight points clear of trouble.
After knocking Torino out of the Coppa Italia, Sampdoria have won four of their last six in all competitions, only losing to Lazio and Fiorentina. The goals of Manolo Gabbiadini, who was awarded a bizarre strike by VAR after being subbed off in the Genoa derby, have been a factor in their improved results. He has scored in three successive games, and could trouble the scoreboard again when Venezia travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday.
Venezia, like their hosts, have a decent enough cushion between themselves and the bottom three, but have lost five of their nine away games, winning just twice. Only woeful Salternitana and Cagliari sides have conceded greater expected goals tallies on their travels than Venezia have, which will be music to the ears of the in-form Gabbiadini.
Gabbiadini to net again?
Despite looking likely to remain in the division, Venezia have allowed opponents more shots, and more shots on target, than any other Serie A club, so Sampdoria should get plenty of opportunities to test the visitors. Sampdoria have actually managed more attempts than high-scoring sides such as Lazio and Verona this campaign, making their former Southampton man a good value punt on the anytime goalscorer market.
In terms of a correct score prediction, Sampdoria’s last four Serie A games have finished 3-1 either way. A 3-1 home victory could be a decent play, with Venezia leaky on the road.
