Sao Paulo vs Cesar Vallejo Predictions
The 1st Leg of this tie last week was a competitive affair and ended in a 1-1 draw. The Peruvians led through Alejandro Hohberg but Jonathan Calleri netted the all important leveller and away goal in the 2nd half for the visitors. If Cesar Vallejo were going to cause an upset in this tie they would have felt they had to win the 1st leg and it’s hard to see them going to Sao Paulo and winning.
Avoiding defeat will be tough enough. Sao Paulo were 4-0 winners at home to Agua Santa in the Paulista at the weekend and have won their last 4 home games in all competitions, scoring 3 or more goals on each occasion.
They did concede 2 goals in two of those games so there is hope for the Peruvians of at least getting on the scoresheet but it’s hard to see them keeping things quiet at the other end. Sao Paulo have also won their last 4 home games in this competition and 13 of their 15 Libertadores home fixtures since the start of this decade.
Cesar Vallejo have limited experience of this competition or of facing such quality opposition. Even in Peru they’ve not been great on the road, winning just 2 of their last 13 away league games so backing Sao Paulo to win this and there to be over 2.5 goals looks good value at 8/11.
The Peruvians may try to play on the break and could take advantage of a Sao Paulo defence that isn’t the most reliable. They face city rivals Corinthians at the weekend so they will have one eye on that particularly if they secure a solid advantage early on. Sao Paulo were beaten 6-1 the last time the two sides met so they’ll be keen to get this game out the way and then seek their revenge.
That could lead to a bit of sloppiness at the back in the closing stages and Sao Paulo have only kept 3 clean sheets in their last 14 games. They should though have the game won by then and backing a 3-1 home win appeals at 12/1.
