Sao Paulo vs The Strongest Predictions

The Brazilians have already played 2 Libertadores matches this year and had to work pretty hard for their 2-1 aggregate win against Peruvian side Cesar Vallejo to make the group phase. They’ve also got defending champions River Plate for company in this group so won’t want any slip-ups here.

Sao Paulo reached the last 16 last year when they lost to fellow Brazilian side Cruzeiro but did have a very strong home record. They won all 4 home games to nil and won 1-0 last week in this competition at home against Cesar Vallejo so it’s very hard to see one of the tournament outsiders coming here and scoring let alone winning.

They were beaten at the weekend by city rivals Corinthians so they may have some wounds to heal but having won 14 of their last 16 home games in the Libertadores you have to fancy them to win this and you can back them to pick up another win to nil at 4/6.

The Strongest were also in this competition last year and usually are given their position at the top of Bolivian football. They were a bit unfortunate not to make the knock-out stage having won 3 of their group games although once again the great disparity between their home and away form was evident. They won every game at altitude in Bogota but lost all their away matches, scoring just once to finish 3rd in the group.

Indeed their overall away record in this competition is atrocious. Since the 2004 edition, they’ve played 23 away fixtures in the Libertadores, losing 21 and winning none.

There should only be one winner here and you can back a 2-0 home win at 9/2.
