Reason For Schalke vs Werder Bremen Predictions

  • Schalke have won only one of their last six home matches in the Bundesliga.
  • Werder Bremen have earned 16 of their 22 league points away from home this term.
  • Werder Bremen have avoided defeat in three of their last four league encounters.

Schalke’s European ambitions collapse

Schalke have looked hopeless since the restart of the Bundesliga and relegation-threatened Werder Bremen should fancy their chances of getting a positive result when they visit the Veltins-Arena.

David Wagner’s Schalke followed their 4-0 hammering by Borussia Dortmund in the Ruhr Derby with losses to Augsburg (3-0) and Fortuna Dusseldorf (2-1) and now occupy a mid-table position.

Their hopes of achieving a European berth are fading fast and they could be outwitted by a Bremen outfit who have endured a disappointing season but have improved in recent assignments.

Bremen strengthen relegation stance

Visitors Bremen have kept successive clean sheets in a 1-0 win over Freiburg and a goalless draw at home to Champions League-chasing Borussia Monchengladbach to keep themselves in the hunt for Bundesliga survival.

They have also been better on the road than at the Weserstadion this season with four of their five Bundesliga wins coming away from home.

They have avoided defeat in eight of their 14 away matches in which they have managed 20 goals and they were unlucky to lose the reverse fixture 2-1 to Schalke in November, having won the shot count 16-12 on that occasion.

Visitors set for more success

Schalke’s concerns run deeper than a mere lack of fitness after the restart – indeed there were issues before football’s hiatus came into effect.

In their four matches in February they failed to record a single win, suffering 5-0 and 3-0 defeats to Leipzig and Cologne respectively and were held to draws by lowly Paderborn and Fortuna Dusseldorf outfits. They are now winless in their previous ten Bundesliga assignments.

The games against Paderborn and Dusseldorf demonstrated an inability to put away the division’s lesser lights and they carry minimal attacking threat, as highlighted by the fact they have failed to score in more games (11) than any other Bundesliga outfit this season.

Their matches have featured an average of only 2.82 goals but they have also kept only four clean sheets in their 14 games at the Veltins-Arena this term.

The stats suggest Bremen should be confident going into this contest and they are worth backing in the double chance market.

As four of Bremen’s last six matches have featured under 2.5 goals, a low-scoring clash looks likely and with neither of these sides blessed with attacking quality, the 1-1 draw could be the way to go when it comes to a correct score prediction.
