Rovers are in cruise control

Barring a minor miracle, Shamrock Rovers have sealed their spot in the third qualifying round after their convincing 4-0 victory away at St Joseph’s in the first leg.

That was perhaps a flattering scoreline but it is hard to give St Joseph’s much hope at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin, where Shamrock Rovers are unbeaten in ten and have chalked up eight victories in that period.

Stephen Bradley’s side have kept six clean sheets in their last nine at home and the League of Ireland leaders should be able to record another shutout success.

Gibraltarian outfit St Joseph’s managed only one shot on target in last week’s home leg and they were knocked out by Shelbourne in the first qualifying round of the Conference League last season. That side are currently 14 points below Shamrock Rovers in the LOI.

Shamrock Rovers made the league phase of last season’s Conference League, with their only defeat in six group games coming against Chelsea, before they suffered a penalty shootout exit to Molde in the playoffs.

That is a cut above what St Joseph’s can achieve so Rovers are taken to record another win to nil, with 2-0 the play for correct-score punters.
