Sheffield Wednesday vs Birmingham Predictions

It’s hard to look past a home win here given how strong the Owls are at Hillsborough and how poor Birmingham have been in recent months. Wednesday will be determined to take maximum points, which would ensure they remain in the play-off places come the end of the weekend and it’d put a bit of pressure on the sides below them to also pick up results.

Birmingham did finally win under Gianfranco Zola last weekend , at the 11th time of asking. However, their 1-0 home win over Fulham wasn’t the most convincing and their goal did come after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men. Zola will be hoping his team’s luck has changed but it certainly feels like all the momentum has been taken out of their season and they can kiss goodbye to any play-off ambitions if they lose here.

Their away record suggests they will find this tough. Blues have won just 1 of their last 12 away games in all competitions and have lost 4 of their last 6. They average only 1.07 points per game away from home this term and have netted just 0.86 goals per game on their travels.

Wednesday are pretty well equipped to deal with the limited attacking threat they pose. They’ve let in just 0.85 goals per game at home and only 3 sides in the division have a better overall defensive record. They’ve had a few setbacks on the road of late but their home form has remained impressive. The Owls have taken 13 points from their last 5 at home in the league and are bidding for a 5th consecutive home clean sheet here.

The January additions of Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall gives them a bit of extra firepower at the other end too. Their main man up top is still Fernando Forestieri though. He has netted in 5 of his last 9 Championship appearances and backing Forestieri to score anytime at 13/10 looks a good shout here.

Overall, Wednesday are looking stronger in all departments and as such backing Sheffield Wednesday to Win at 4/5 looks to offer the best value in this one.
