Reason For Sheffield Wednesday vs Huddersfield Predictions

  • Sheffield Wednesday have scored 67% of their league goals away from home
  • The Owls have scored 2+ goals in just three of 21 home games
  • Huddersfield have lost four of 13 trips to teams outside the top eight

Crunch time for Huddersfield

Huddersfield still have survival to fight for, as their weekend loss at home to Luton has left them hovering dangerously above the drop zone. With just three games left, time is ticking away for the teams in danger to save themselves. That’s put pressure on Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley, who has failed to drag the Terriers clear of trouble after being appointed last year.

However, the visitors could find more joy on the road in their battle against the drop. While Huddersfield haven’t found consistency on their travels this season, they will be confident ahead of a visit to a Sheffield Wednesday side who were already struggling for results at home before losing their home support.

Owls need home improvement

A 3-0 win at QPR at the weekend was a boost for Sheffield Wednesday, but that win might not be enough to turn things around for Garry Monk. That win may have eneded a three-game losing streak, but the Owls so far have just preyed on teams who were also struggling. They picked up three points against Bristol City during the Owls’ nine-game winless run. A win over a QPR side who have now lost five from six isn’t a huge achievement.

Meanwhile, the hosts have issues to sort at their own ground. Their 3-0 away win won’t fix their inability to score goals at home this season, having hit 67% of their goals in away matches so far. They’ve scored no more than a single goal in 18 of their 21 home games, failing to win two-thirds of those matches. Meanwhile, the Terriers are perfectly set up to play as the underdogs, which has us siding with them in our predictions.

Huddersfield can hold out

The Terriers have been consistent in front of goal away from home, having found the net in 86% of their away games. They head here having converted 12% of their away chances ahead of a clash with a Sheffield Wednesday side who have shipped three goals or more in three of their last four at home. Meanwhile, Huddersfield have kept back to back away clean sheets and they’ve lost only four times in 13 meetings with teams outside the top eight.

When you consider the hosts’ lack of cutting edge here, their poor defensive displays and the way Huddersfield are performing on the road everything looks set for an away result. We are backing the visitors to avoid defeat, while a 1-1 draw is our correct score prediction given that the Owls have scored exactly once in four of their last five home games.
