      Shrewsbury vs Sheffield Wednesday Predictions

Although there is only one league between the sides, the gulf in class is a little more than that given Wednesday are in the top six in the Championship while Shrewsbury are in the bottom six in League One.

Sheffield Wednesday are having an excellent season and have won 4 of their 5 matches so far in 2016. They’ve been better at home than away of late but have won 1-0 at Fulham and secured a 1-1 draw at Reading since the turn of the year and given their run to the Quarter Finals of the Capital One Cup before Christmas have clearly got an appetite for a cup tie.

The Shrews will be up for this too no doubt after an excellent run to the 4th Round, the highlight of which was a 1-0 win at Cardiff in the last round. It has however masked their poor league form somewhat and they are only one place and one point outside the relegation zone as it stands in League One.

They were thrashed 7-1 at Chesterfield just a week before stunning the Bluebirds in South Wales. Since then they have suffered two home defeats against Barnsley and Oldham and they’ve only scored 1 goal in their last 4 matches at New Meadow but they did win surprisingly away at leaders Burton so they shouldn’t be underestimated.

Wednesday may make changes here as they did in the League Cup but there is some strength in depth in their squad now and they have added 3 players already this month including securing the permanent signing of Gary Hooper, who has scored 5 goals in his last 3 games for the club.

They are playing really well at the moment and should have enough quality to get the job done on the day and look good value at 21/20 to beat a limited Shrewsbury outfit.

Given Shrewsbury’s struggles in front of goal, the Owls may only need to score once to progress and backing a 1-0 away win at 13/2 could be a decent punt here.
