      South Africa to Win

      Reason for tip

South Africa have only lost one of their last 14 matches and look a more settled side than Cameroon, who have impressed at the tournament after a chaotic build up but have injury concerns surrounding captain Nouhou Tolo. It is also worth noting that Bafana Bafana have only lost one of the nine previous meetings between these two sides.

      South Africa 2-1

      Reason for tip

South Africa have won five of their last six matches, but their two victories at AFCON have only been by a solitary goal and they are yet to keep a clean-sheet at this tournament. Cameroon scored in all three of their group games and can continue that run, but it is Bafana Bafana that should edge to victory and they can replicate the 2-1 success they enjoyed over Angola during the group stage.

      South Africa vs Cameroon Predictions

      • South Africa have only lost one of their last 14 matches
      • Bafana Bafana have only been beaten once in nine previous meetings with Cameroon
      • Cameroon endured a chaotic build up to this tournament after parting ways with former head coach Marc Brys

Bafana Bafana going well under Broos

South Africa enjoyed a strong 2025, qualifying for the World Cup before booking their place in the last 16 of AFCON by winning two of their three group games, and they will hope to start the New Year in similarly positive fashion against Cameroon.

Bafana Bafana’s only defeat across their last 14 games was a narrow 1-0 loss to Egypt in the group stage and they have a head coach who knows all about going far at AFCON, with Hugo Broos having led Cameroon to the title in 2017.

Broos was actually in the opposing dugout the last time these two sides met in 2016 – a match that finished 0-0 – and South Africa’s overall record against Cameroon is strong, as they have lost only one of the nine previous head-to-heads.

Question marks remain over Indomitable Lions

Cameroon took seven points from a possible nine in the group stage, finishing behind defending champions Ivory Coast on goals scored, and their efforts have been impressive so far given the tumultuous nature of their build up to the tournament.

Marc Brys was relieved of his duties as head coach just weeks before the start of the tournament following the Indomitable Lions’ failure to qualify for the World Cup and his replacement, David Pagou, has helped steady the ship.

However, with captain Nouhou Tolo picking up an injury in Cameroon’s final group game, the five-time African champions may have gone as far as they can at this tournament and South Africa are fancied to book their spot in the quarter-finals.
