      Southampton vs Bournemouth Predictions

Southampton struggled at the start of the season as they tried to adapt to life without their defensive stalwarts from last season, but with a few players returning from injury and the arrival of Virgil van Dijk they have picked themselves up.

They are currently on a six match unbeaten streak in all competitions, four of which they have won. The latest of these was a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, coming after wins against MK Dons, Swansea, and Chelsea.

Their two draws have come against the high flying Leicester and a Liverpool side under new management, so there isn’t much to be ashamed about from those results.

Southampton have seen themselves rise up to 8th in the Premier League table now, and a win on Sunday could see them move up to 6th position.

After a difficult start to life in the Premier League Bournemouth looked to be getting to grips with their new surroundings.

But yet another serious injury setback has halted them in their tracks, and they are currently on a five match winless streak in all competitions.

Liverpool became the 4th team to beat them in midweek with a 1-0 win in the League Cup, which was a relatively good result following their back to back 5-1 losses in the Premier League.

Max Gradel, Tyrone Mings, and Callum Wilson are all out for the majority of the season for Bournemouth, which will severely damage their hopes of staying up. Southampton have their own long term injuries in Florin Gardos and Fraser Forster.

Bournemouth’s defence is really struggling at the moment, and with six of Southampton’s last seven matches ending with three or more goals I’m expecting a high scoring match on Sunday. Odds of 5/4 for a Southampton Win and Over 2.5 Goals look really good value to me, so that’s what I’m backing along with a 3-1 win at 12/1.
