Southampton to Win

Reason for tip

Southampton have won four and drawn three of their last seven games in all competitions (90 min). They beat QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road earlier this year and should secure three points athome to a side with patchy recent away form – three defeats, three draws and only one win from their last seven league trips.

Southampton 3-1

Reason for tip

Saints won 2-1 in west London earlier this season and may be good enough to secure a 3-1 home win against the R’s. QPR are very hit and miss on the road, but there are usually a few goals in their matches.

Ross Stewart To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Ross Stewart has scored in each of his last two Championship appearances and seems to be finding his playing rhythm again after an injury-interrupted spell.

Southampton vs QPR Predictions

  • Southampton have won four and drawn three of their last seven games in all competitions (90 min)
  • QPR have lost three, drawn three and won only one of their last seven away league matches
  • Ross Stewart has scored in each of his last two Championship appearances

Mid-table duo well-matched for midweek clash

Southampton and QPR are locked on 47 points, just four of Wrexham in the last play-off position, going into Tuesday’s Championship clash at St Mary’s. The sides could not be any closer in terms of current form and both have shown the sort of inconsistency that would make backers think twice about supporting them here.

Saints have won four of their last six league games, but failed to get the job done as odds-on shots at home to Charlton on Saturday. Tonda Eckert’s side dominated proceedings, but the Addicks’ defence held firm under late pressure.

That result contrasts with the impressive 3-1 win QPR achieved at Hull last weekend. Julian Stephan’s men took the lead through a Paddy McNair own goal before sealing the points in the second half through Daniel Bennie and Richard Kone’s late strikes.

R’s have patchy away form

The R’s were forced to defend for long periods after the break and Stephan will need to make changes to freshen up his line-up for their second away trip in a matter of days. Their away form is pretty patchy with only one road win in their last seven and three defeats – one to struggling West Brom – during that sequence.

Southampton have won the last five league meetings between the teams, including a 2-1 success at Loftus Road in November – Eckert’s first game in caretaker charge of the Saints. He has got them playing good football again and they look backable at the 3/4 quote if you believe that their quality can unpick Rangers’ resistance.
