It’s a Hollywood start to Wrexham’s first-ever season in the Championship, but the script may not go to plan at St Mary’s Stadium as they face a Southampton side with big ambitions of their own.

They have amassed 291 points in the past three seasons, earning three straight promotions under Phil Parkinson.

But the step up to the Championship may prove their hardest yet, and they are in for a baptism of fire against a Southampton side expected to challenge for promotion under new manager Will Still.

Wrexham have recruited well ahead of their first second-tier campaign, but their squad is very much of League One quality, and a trip to Southampton could end in defeat.
