Coventry to Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals
Southend vs Coventry Predictions
- Southend have conceded more home goals than any other team in League 1 this season.
- Southend have conceded two or more in 100% of their home matches against top-half teams this season.
- No League 1 team has lost fewer away matches than Coventry during the current campaign.
Home improvement
Southend experienced what has become the norm for them on Tuesday evening, as they were battered away against Peterborough, losing by four goals to nil. That’s not the first heavy beating that the Shrimpers have received, and it certainly won’t be the last, though it would be wrong to say that Sol Campbell’s men had made no progress of late.
While they are still one of weakest teams (if not THE weakest team) in the division, the Shrimpers have started to offer much more at home, so much so that they come into this match having lost none of their last four at Roots Hall. Having recently drawn against the likes of Rotherham and beating Lincoln at this venue, Southend may fancy their chances on Saturday.
One thing that isn’t positive is Southend’s home record against top-half teams. Saturday’s hosts have won none of their six home games against such teams this season, four of which they’ve lost. More alarmingly, they conceded at least twice in each of those matches, conceding three or more in four of those six.
Sturdy Sky Blues
While Southend continue to showcase a flimsy defence, Coventry continue to be nice and sturdy. Thanks to a nine-game unbeaten run, the Sky Blues are now just two points behind league leaders Rotherham with a game in hand.
In addition to solid general form, Coventry come into this match after a string of promising away-day displays. Mark Bowen’s men have lost none of their last five travelling matches, four of which they’ve won. What has been particularly impressive during that period has been their ability to restrict teams. They’ve kept two clean sheets and have conceded more than once in none of their last five away games.
Visitors to be too strong
Southend may have done well at home of late and they may well be unbeaten in their last four at Roots Hall, but their record against the better teams is very tough ignore. In the betting, ‘Coventry to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ catches the eye. Recent away wins against Bristol Rovers and Tranmere have shown that the Sky Blues can thrive offensively against weak teams, while Southend, who’re the worst team in the division in terms of shots on target against and who’ve conceded two or more on ten occasion at Roots Hall, have been nothing short of abysmal at the back against top-half teams at home, conceding a total of 21 goals.
