      SPAL vs Sassuolo Predictions

      • SPAL were beaten in seven of their last nine Serie A games.
      • Sassuolo take a three-match unbeaten record to play the league’s bottom team.
      • SPAL have conceded an average of 1.7 goals per 90 minutes in Serie A this term.
      • Sassuolo beat SPAL 3-0 in a one-sided clash in September.

      SPAL prime relegation candidates

After successive defeats at home to Bologna and away at Lazio respectively, SPAL returned to the foot of the Serie A table last weekend, after their brief flirtation with 18th place just two weeks ago.

SPAL have now lost seven of their last nine Italian top-flight fixtures and their grip on a place in Serie A is starting to loosen.

At the Stadio Paolo Mazza, SPAL have lost three on the bounce, turned over in disappointing fashion by Brescia, Verona and most recently Bologna in a trio of fixtures they would have expected a little more from.

Their horrible run leaves them looking incredibly fragile ahead of the visit of an in-form Sassuolo team this weekend.

      Sassuolo hit a purple patch

I Neroverdi took seven points from the last nine available to them in Serie A, and the club’s thrilling 4-2 triumph over Roma last time out was a superb confidence galvanising result.

Sassuolo played some terrific football against the Giallorossi, with Filip Djuricic, Domencio Berardi and two-goal hero Francesco Caputo all turning in excellent individual performances.

It’s clear then that Sassuolo have plenty of momentum behind them ahead of their visit to play the division’s bottom club, and their belief that they can pick up another result this weekend will be further strengthened by the comfortable win they recorded over SPAL earlier this season.

      Sassuolo to complete the double

Sassuolo put three goals without reply past SPAL when the clubs faced off in their reverse league fixture in September, with that man Caputo netting twice again.

That defeat was SPAL’s second heaviest of the campaign so far, and with the hosts in a real rut at present, we think Sassuolo look great value to beat them again, especially at the available odds.

However, while SPAL rarely win, they are just as seldomly torn to shreds, conceding just 1.7 goals per 90 minutes in Serie A so far this term. The league’s bottom side have also scored in seven of their 10 home games since August, and with those statistical factors considered, we’re tipping Sassuolo to win 2-1 this weekend.
