Sporting Gijon vs Getafe Predictions
Sporting Gijon are a point outside the relegation zone heading into the weekend and will certainly be targeting this as game where they could move further away from the bottom three. However they have lost 5 of their last 6 matches in the league and were beaten 2-0 at Eibar in midweek.
They were 3-1 winners against Las Palmas in their last home game but haven’t been too convincing at the Estadio Municipal El Molinón, where they have won just twice in 8 matches this season and have been defeated by the likes of Real Betis and Levante.
Here they are up against a Getafe side that has found a bit of form after a poor start to the campaign under new boss Fran Escribá, who joined from Elche in the summer. They are up to 14th now and have only lost 1 of their last 6 matches in the league and that was away at Real Madrid.
Goals from Pablo Sarabia and Lafita helped them to a 2-2 draw at the Mestalla in their last away game and it was one of their best away performances for some time given you have to go back to April for their last win on the road, which came at Elche when Escribá was in the opposing dug-out.
He came with a big reputation and seems to finally be getting his methods across and at 4/6 they are worth backing to at least avoid defeat here and they have every chance of ending their wait for an away win.
Sporting have been a bit inconsistent this season but one major concern is the number of goals they have been conceding in recent weeks. They’ve conceded 3 goals in 3 of their last 5 home games and the opposition in those matches were all sides in the bottom half in the shape of Granada, Levante and Real Betis.
Given that, Getafe will really fancy this and they do have the joint best goalscoring record in the bottom half of La Liga so consider backing a 2-1 away win at 11/1.
