Sporting Gijon vs Granada Predictions
Sporting have made a pretty bright start to life in La Liga after achieving promotion from the Segunda last season. They have been competitive in all the games they’ve played so far even against strong opposition like Real Madrid and Valencia and they have real reason to believe they will be good enough to stay in this league.
Most pundits assumed that they would be tough to beat at home, where they are well backed by the passionate crowd at El Molinón but struggle on the road. However the reverse of that has proved to be true so far and they’ve picked up 7 of their 8 points away from home with wins coming at Deportivo and last time out away to Espanyol.
They were a little fortunate to win that game though, scoring with their only 2 shots on target. Last time out at home they were beaten 2-1 by fellow newboys Real Betis and Granada may feel they can come here a get a positive result too.
The Andalucian side are rock bottom though with just 4 points from their opening 7 matches. They’ve not had a particularly easy set of fixtures though and did pick up a 1-1 draw last time out against high-flying Deportivo.
Like Sporting, they’ve been better away from home. Their only win came at Getafe in the 2nd round of fixtures while they showed their defensive stubbornness at the Bernabeu and Mestalla where they were only beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid and Valencia respectively.
They are likely to come here with a similarly cautious mindset and Sporting don’t possess as many players capable of unlocking the door as those two. Therefore Granada look a worthwhile bet at 5/6 to get at least a point out of this game.
It’s hard to see them winning though in truth and it could well be another long hard season for them. They were the division’s draw specialists last season and that ultimately helped keep them in the division and at 5/1 there is value in backing this one to finish level too at 1-1.
