Sporting can start season on a positive note

Sporting Lisbon endured a disappointing end to the 2019-20 Primeira Liga season but can kick start their new campaign with victory in their first competitive match – a Europa League qualifier at home to Aberdeen.

Despite their poor run of results at the end of the season, Sporting still finished fourth in the latest edition of the Primeira Liga and reached the last 32 of the Europa League last term, winning five of their eight matches.

They had a strong lead over Istanbul Basaksehir but crumbled to lose 4-1 in the second leg but Aberdeen should represent a less daunting assignment.

The Scottish Premiership outfit fell to a 3-0 defeat against lowly Motherwell at the weekend and are yet to be properly tested in European qualifying with wins over Faroe Islands side NSI Runavik and Norway’s Viking. They could fail to score and we predict a 2-0 Sporting win.
