Lions should devour the Geese again

Sporting Lisbon should overwhelm Cas Pia when they meet the minnows from their city in Saturday’s Primeira Liga clash.  The Geese were well and truly cooked by Ruben Amorim’s side on their last visit to the Alvalade in April, going down 8-0 to the champions-in-waiting.

They have changed coaches twice since that January drubbing with Joao Ferreira now tasked with keeping them up and things have begun to come together for them in the past few weeks.

Casa Pia are unbeaten in four with wins against Estrela and Moreirense followed by 1-1 draws against Gil Vicente and Vitoria Guimaraes. But their last derby game did not go so well as Benfica ran out 3-0 victors at Estadio da Luz in August.

Gulf in class

That result is a pretty good barometer for that could happen here unless something totally unexpected occurs. Casa Pia have not beaten Sporting in their last five meetings with the average score of those clashes around 4-1 to the Lions.

Amorim’s side have a couple of injuries and were fortunate to escape Eindhoven with a point after a 1-1 Champions League draw with PSV in midweek, but there is a gulf in class between these clubs that should be represented in the final scoreline.

Backing Sporting to cover a -2 handicap, which they have done in eight of their last 12 home league games, should have a good chance of landing with a 3-0 scoreline appearing to be a favorite of Amorim’s side at the moment.
