Sporting still gunning for third-place finish

Famalicao are finishing the campaign with a flourish and can score at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Sunday when they meet Champions League-chasing Sporting.

The Lisbon giants have not quite given up the ghost yet, although they need to win all their remaining games to have any chance of overhauling Sporting Braga.

Ruben Amorim’s side have picked up some domestic form lately and take a nine-game unbeaten league run into this fixture.

Famalicao have won three in a row to make it seven wins from their last nine league matches. They have their sights set on Arouca in fifth place and could earn European football next term if they close the six-point deficit.

It should be a close game with both teams committing to attack because of the desperation of their situations. Both teams to score looks like being the best bet here with it landing in a fair portion of Sporting’s recent home games and all but one of the last six Fama road games.

A 2-1 home win is just marginally preferred over an away win by the same score. Sporting have been very good at home this season and the advantage of playing in front of their fans could pay off again.
