Sporting Lisbon vs Tondela Predictions

Sporting Lisbon are in scintillating form, winning ten matches in a row in all competitions and scoring goals by the bagful. They have, in fact, netted 25 times across then ten games, including a 3-1 defeat of Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

However, it is actually their defensive record which is most impressive. Rúben Amorim’s side have conceded just four goals in 11 league games this season. In six matches at Estadio Jose Alvalade, only Porto, way back in September, have managed to score against them.

They are a formidable team to face and it is hard to see how they do not rack up a comfortable 11th win on the spin here, especially as they have scored in every game so far this season.

Tondela Conceding Too Many

Tondela have been beaten in four of their five away league matches this season, keeping just one clean sheet in the process, while their sole win was against struggling Belenenses.

They have already conceded 21 goals in the Primeira Liga, the second worst defensive record in the division (behind bottom club Santa Clara), and you would expect they will struggle to keep Sporting at bay here.

Pako Ayestarán’s side have conceded at least two goals in each of their four away defeats and have conceded at least two goals in nine of their ten league matches.

This will be a real struggle for them and it is clear to see why Sporting are fancied to score a couple of times, while their defence will keep things quiet at the other end. I am predicting the hosts will get a 2-0 victory.
