Stevenage vs Cambridge United Predictions

It may still be early in the season but most sides will already know if they are likely to achieve their aims come the end of the campaign. Stevenage have enjoyed a good start to the season but they know they will need to kick on if they are able to accomplish the promotion they will have set out to achieve before a ball was kicked. This weekend they welcome a Cambridge side who have been less than impressive thus far.

The hosts bounced back from a disappointing defeat last weekend when they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Yeovil Town. However, Stevenage were able to post an immediate reply as they conquered Swansea City’s Under 21 side 5-0 in the controversial Checkatrade Trophy. It has been a pretty solid start to the campaign as Boro have won two and drawn two of their other four games in the league and they sit in among the early pace setters.

If the hosts have started the season well, then they visitors will be bemoaning their lack of form in the opening few games of the campaign. United have lost three of their five league matches so far and even though they were able to overcome Notts County and draw with Northampton, the fact that they have conceded an average of two goals per game so far shows just where their problems can be found.

The form of both of these sides suggests to us that there should be only one winner when they clash this weekend. The hosts are undefeated in their opening two matches at home and following that morale boosting win on Tuesday evening, they should be confident of adding three points to their tally. With this in mind, we think that backing a home win is the way to go in this fixture.

We are not done there though, as we think this could prove to be quite a comfortable afternoon’s work for the hosts. They have a solid defensive record so far this season and are up against a side who have struggled to find the back of the net so far. This, combined with the fact that only one of the previous six meetings between these two sides have finished with both teams scoring suggests to us that backing Stevenage to win to nil is an excellent option to take if you fancy something with bigger odds.
