Stoke City vs Coventry Predictions

  • Stoke City have lost seven and won only four of their last 13 home league games.
  • Coventry City have won two of their last three away Championship matches.
  • Coventry have scored 1.62 goals per away game since November.

Sky Blues’ thinking of locking up top-10 finish

Stoke put in a pretty limp display at Middlesbrough last week and look worth opposing when they take on Coventry in the final round of regular season Championship action. The Potters have proven tough to pin down for punters this season, losing games when favoured and pulling off surprise wins as underdogs while drawing precious few.

But there were some signs in last weekend’s 3-1 away loss to Boro that suggest they can be toppled by the Sky Blues as Mark Robins’ side seek to secure a top ten finish. Michael O’Neill’s men conceded two goals from set-pieces, looked a tired team in the second half and had their late consolation goal gifted to them by a goalkeeping error.

Coventry have been more miss than hit in the second half of the campaign, but taken as a whole, it’s been a satisfying second season back in the Championship for them. They have played an adventurous brand of football that has achieved results against some of the top teams in the division – such as was seen in their recent 3-1 win at Fulham.

Counter-attacking Coventry can pounce on Potters’ mistakes

Only two Championship clubs have scored from more counter-attacks than Coventry and Robins’ side will try to do that and exploit space behind Stoke’s wing-backs at Bet365 Stadium. They will fancy their chances of causing problems from set-play opportunities given the mess Stoke were in at the Riverside Stadium.

The Potters have lost seven and won only four of their last 13 at home, so we feel opposing them is justified based on form too. Backing Coventry in the draw no bet market offers a respectable return with lesser risk – particularly given the Sly Blues’ record of only one defeat in their last five road trips.

A 2-1 road success is taken in correct score betting because Coventry have kept only one away clean sheet in their last 13 road trips, but scored 21 goals during that span at an average of 1.62 per game.
