- The teams fought out a 0-0 stalemate in December’s reverse fixture at St Andrews.
Sides to serve up another dull contest
These sides toughed out a turgid 0-0 draw in December’s reverse fixture at St Andrews and we could be set for a similarly dull affair at the bet365 Stadium this week.
With Stoke sitting 12th and Coventry comfortably safe from relegation in 18th, this is a bit of a dead rubber and it’s a game unlikely to produce much in terms of intensity and attacking quality.
The Potters are favourites by virtue of home advantage and the fact that Coventry have already lost 13 times on the road this season, though odds of around evens make little appeal considering Michael O’Neill’s men have claimed just one point from their last three league matches.
Five of Stoke’s last six starts have produced under 2.5 goals and that’s the obvious play this Wednesday after the teams’ aforementioned stalemate at Christmas.
Under 2.5 goals have also been netted in 12 of Stoke’s 21 home games and in 12 of the Sky Blues’ 21 away trips which adds further reasoning to our selection, and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that both will draw a blank in front of goal once more at the bet365 Stadium – particularly with the Potters failing to bag in their last two league matches.
