Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have not scored in six of the last nine Championship road trips for Middlesbrough.
  • Both teams have not scored in six of the last seven head-to-head meetings between the clubs.

Defences to prevail when Potters play Boro

Stoke slipped back into the top six with their impressive and surprising away win at QPR last week, but may be a bit short in the betting to follow up at home to Middlesbrough.

Boro bring a two-game winning streak of their own to the bet365 Stadium and, although they weren’t particularly convincing against Swansea last Saturday, still have one of the six best defensive records in the Championship.

Chris Wilder’s side are back on the fringes of the promotion hunt and may feel a point in Staffordshire is a good result for them right now.

There was a lot to like about Stoke’s showing in west London:  the Potters scored two well-taken goals through Tyrese Campbell and Mario Vrancic and became the first team to stop QPR scoring in a league match in eight months.

Fox was a cunning addition to Stoke backline

Morgan Fox was a solid addition as left-sided centre-half in a back three and their defensive structure will prove tough for a Boro attack still not quite firing as it should be.

‘Both teams to score – no’ has a lot going for it in this matchup because Stoke have been involved in six straight games now where one of the other team has failed to net. The vast majority of Boro’s away trips this season also fall into this category and historically, there has only been one BTTS game between these in the last seven meetings.

We’re favouring a 0-0 draw in correct score betting because Stoke’s attack can be bit hit and miss while Boro’s defence is robust enough to resist.
