Stoke vs Southampton Predictions

Stoke suffered an expected defeat on Saturday when Arsenal beat them 3-1 at the Emirates, but that sort of result isn’t something which will bother them too much. The more crucial results have come in wins against the likes of Watford, Burnley, Swansea, Hull, and Sunderland recently.

This takes their form record to an impressive five wins, three draws, and two defeats in their last ten Premier League games, lifting them up to 11th in the Premier League table, despite their shocking start to the campaign. At the moment they are playing like a much better team than their league position implies.

One thing that Stoke are missing is an in form striker though. They have largely relied on the exploits of Joe Allen and Xherdan Shaqiri for goals this season, with Wilfried Bony only netting twice in nine league appearances. As a result of this they have scored just 17 league goals in 15 matches.

Southampton are even worse off in the attacking department, with them scoring 14 goals in 15 matches. To make matters worse for the visitors Charlie Austin, who has netted six of their 14 goals, is out for at least three months with a shoulder injury.

Despite his absence Southampton did manage to narrowly beat Middlesbrough 1-0, thanks to Sofiane Boufal’s strike. This made it three wins, two draws, and three defeats in their last eight outings and puts them 10th in the Premier League table and out of the Europa League.

Away from home Southampton’s goals dry up even more. They have netted just four times in their last eight away days in all competitions, and they’re facing a Stoke side who have only conceded three in their last five games at home.

Both teams rather low scoring seasons so far, combined with Charlie Austin’s irreplaceable absence for Southampton, make this a match with rather few goals on the agenda. Backing Under 2.5 Goals at odds of 4/6 alongside a 1-0 win for Stoke at 8/1 for our correct score predictions looks to be the best option here.
