Tip Reasoning

  • Stuttgart are unbeaten at home since the start of January in the Bundesliga and have won four of their last five.
  • Borussia Dortmund have lost four of their last six Bundesliga away games.
  • Two of Dortmund’s last four away defeats have been by 2-1 scorelines.

Dortmund woes to continue in Stuttgart

Stuttgart have been one of the surprise packages in the Bundesliga this season and head into the final stint of the season with a real chance of qualifying for Europe next term.

Their 1-0 win over Werder Bremen last weekend made it just one defeat in their last seven league games and puts them level on points with seventh-placed Union Berlin. Victory on Saturday could see them move into that coveted position, and victory is what we’re predicting as they face a Dortmund side in turmoil.

Borussia Dortmund’s ongoing Champions League campaign is going some way to masking the issues plaguing the club, but a first leg loss to Manchester City is an ominous sign and their only silver lining in an otherwise bleak season looks set to be extinguished by the end of next week.

In the Bundesliga they are seven points adrift of the top four and face losing both Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho should they fail to secure Champions League football. They were dreadful in their defeat to Frankfurt last weekend and have now won just one of their last six in all competitions.

In the league alone they have lost four of their last six away games and come up against a Stuttgart side unbeaten since the start of January at home, with this tie sandwiched between two crucial and draining Champions League clashes with Manchester City.

The hosts have won four of their last five at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena and look incredibly good value to get the win against a Dortmund side who’s only away points since January have come against relegation-threatened Cologne and the doomed Schalke.

We’re backing a home win here, and with two of Dortmund’s last four away losses ending 2-1 we’re backing that as our correct score prediction.
