Sunderland vs Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Sunderland went into their weekend trip to Swansea in good form having won three of their last four matches, but none of that confidence showed through as they were well beaten 3-0 by the struggling South Wales outfit. This pushes them back to the bottom of the Premier League with 11 points from their 15 games so far this season, and things aren’t getting any easier for them going into the festive period.

They face a Chelsea side who have won nine on the bounce in the Premier League, with their most recent one being a hard fought 1-0 win at home to West Brom.

That win came courtesy of Diego Costa who bagged his 12th Premier League goal of the season to win the game. Seven of these 12 goals have come away from Stamford Bridge, and the Spaniard has scored in five of his last six matches. This makes him by far the best choice for our anytime goalscorer predictions.

Costa may be the star of the show at that end of the pitch, but the other end is playing it’s part as well. Chelsea have conceded just two Premier League goals in their last nine matches. Antonio Conte’s excellent three-at-the-back tactics are certainly transferring to the Premier League well.

This form has taken them to the summit of the Premier League, with them still sitting three points clear of Arsenal below them and an impressive seven points above pre-season title favourites Manchester City.

Sunderland’s main attacking outlet is undoubtedly Jermain Defoe, but up against three in form Chelsea defenders there is a serious threat that he will be taken completely out of the game.

Sunderland have failed to score in five of their last nine matches in all competitions as well, so it’s expected to be a real struggle for the hosts on Wednesday. Considering Chelsea’s excellent form I think backing a Chelsea Win to Nil at 6/5 is the best option here, and I’m going for that along with a 2-0 correct score predictions at 13/2.
