Sunderland vs West Brom Predictions

Sunderland threw away the chance to leave the Premier League relegation before the international break when they let arch rivals Newcastle score a late equaliser in a crucial match in the relegation battle.

These two dropped points mean that Sunderland remain in the bottom three, with two points separating them from Norwich above them and one point between them and 19th placed Newcastle.

They have undoubtedly started to improve since Sam Allardyce came into the club though. They are now unbeaten in three matches and have only lost one of their last six. However, just the one win during this period highlights their problem, and they really need to start picking up all three points now.

West Brom are in relatively good form at the moment. They played dreadfully against Norwich admittedly, and fully deserved to lose 1-0, but before that they had won three of their last five and only lost once, putting them in a respectable 11th position in the Premier League.

Their main issue has been scoring enough goals, but despite their meagre attempt against Norwich they have shown signs of improvement. They have netted nine goals in their last seven matches and have only failed to find the back of the net once. This has come at a price though: Their normally sturdy defence has only kept two clean sheets in their last ten matches.

Sunderland haven’t kept a clean sheet since November though, so West Brom shouldn’t have many issues finding a goal on Saturday. They will need more than one goal to win the match though, because Sunderland have found the back of the net in ten of their last 12 matches in all competitions. This, plus the absolute necessity of picking up three points on Saturday, means that they should be able to grab a goal or two.

This makes odds of 21/20 for Both Teams to Score look very valuable, and I’m going for a 2-1 Sunderland win at 9/1 as well.
