Sweden Women vs Portugal Women Predictions

  • Sweden, who have won 11 of their last 14 games, probably need to win to ensure top spot in the group.
  • Both teams have scored in Sweden’s last four games.
  • Both teams have scored in Portugal’s last three games.
  • Fridolina Rolfo has scored five goals in her last nine national team appearances.

Self-critical Swedes set to put Portugal out

Despite earning a 2-1 victory, Sweden were clearly unhappy with their performance against Switzerland last time out and will be determined to do better against Portugal on Sunday. Peter Gerhardsson’s side need to win to give themselves the best chance of topping the group, but a draw could send them through as runners-up – or even a narrow defeat in exceptional circumstances.

Gerhardsson, captain Caroline Seger and attacker Kosovare Asllani all expressed varying degrees of anger with the quality of their overall display against the Swiss and standards must be raised in order to progress further. The Olympic Silver Medallists have dominated games and just about deserved to win both, but there hasn’t been the same fluidity or precision to their attack as there was in Tokyo.

They still appear to be worthy favourites to take all three points against Portugal, who have surpassed all expectations by coming from two goals down to draw with La Nati and pushed the Dutch defending champions all the way on Wednesday.

Reliable Rolfo offers value in AT goalscorer betting

A Selecção das Quinas have been undone by their poor starts, going 2-0 down in both games, and appear to be generally much smaller and less physical than their Group C rivals. Their technicality, tenacity and counter-attacking ability cannot be denied, however, and they can score against a Swedish defence that has been less than watertight in this tournament.

Both teams can score at Leigh Sports Village, but Sweden have the edge in terms of experience, which should see them through to the quarter-finals with another 2-1 win.

Fridolina Rolfo offers value at around 13/10 in anytime goalscorer markets after bagging the opener against the Swiss to make it five goals from her last nine internationals and 23 in 67 overall.
