Swindon vs Plymouth Argyle Predictions
A strong start to the season has always been an essential ingredient to a successful campaign, but just as vital as that is the ability to keep finding ways to win when sides have figured out your game plan. This weekend sees two sides who both started the season well but have dipped in recent weeks as Swindon Town welcome Plymouth Argyle to the County Ground.
Swindon had been flying in early season but with only one win in their last five matches in all competitions they have dropped to seventh and are now struggling to maintain their spot in the League Two playoff places. Last weekend’s 79th-minute goal to Bradford saw their opponents claim a 2-1 win and means that the Robins enter this match having lost their previous two in League Two as they had suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Newport County the week prior.
The latest side to make the trip to the County Ground is a Plymouth side who appear to be on the up as they have won their last two away games to nil, including a 3-0 win away at Swindon in the EFL Trophy in midweek. With a 2-2 home draw with Scunthorpe United sandwiched between that result and a 1-0 victory over Mansfield Town, Argyle have every reason to be confident and go into this match hoping to earn three points over their promotion rivals.
Although the last two times these two sides have met came in the Leasing.com Trophy, it is worth noting that both results finished in a 3-0 win to the away team with one victory apiece. However, given that most teams rotate the squad in that competition, it is never a good guide to form. That is not to discount it though, as the previous meeting is still fresh in the memory, given that it took place less than a month ago.
When you also consider that the last four encounters between the teams have yielded three or more goals and both teams featuring highly in the goals scored column but also possessing pretty ordinary defensive records, it seems likely that this game will feature goals, and with this in mind we are backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored. However, we cannot separate the two sides and we think that backing a 2-2 draw for those that like a correct score tip looks to be the way to go.
