Salernitana Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Salernitana have gone six games without defeat in Serie A, though the last five of those matches have ended level. The visitors have held both Milan clubs in recent weeks and earned a 1-1 draw against Torino back in January. The hosts have only won two of their last eight games and are desperately short for victory in many places.

Salernitana 1-0

Reason for tip

Torino have only scored 11 goals in their 14 home league games this campaign, and they appear to have little to play for in the remainder of the campaign. Salernitana have only lost one of their last five road games and could hit Torino on the break on Sunday.

Torino vs Salernitana Predictions

  • Torino have only won two of their last eight games in Serie A, going three without a victory.
  • Salernitana have drawn each of their last five games, holding both Milan clubs in that span.
  • Torino and Salernitana shared a 1-1 draw in January’s return fixture, and Paulo Sousa’s side have improved since then.

Draw specialists head to Turin

Salernitana may not feel completely safe as the Serie A run-in approaches, sitting seven points clear of 18th-placed Verona – who boosted their survival hopes with a huge win over Sassuolo last time out. However, it does appear a matter of time until Salernitana are secure, with Paulo Sousa making them difficult to beat since his February appointment. On Sunday, they visit a Torino side with little to play for, and punters may wish to back the visitors to cause something of an upset.

Indeed, Sousa experienced defeat against high-flying Lazio in his first game in charge, but that remains his only loss at the helm. Having thrashed Monza 3-0, Salernitana have subsequently drawn five successive games, holding both AC Milan and Inter Milan in highly creditable stalemates. Salernitana also held Torino to a 1-1 draw back in January, when they were desperately struggling amid a run of one win from 11 games, and Sousa’s solid 3-4-3 system, which relies on quick counter-attacks, could reap further rewards on Sunday.

While Salernitana are still scrapping for safety, Torino appear to have little to play for over the next few weeks, sitting 16 points clear of danger but six adrift of an in-form Juventus side in seventh – who could still win an appeal against their 15-point deduction. A run of two wins from eight games demonstrates that Ivan Juric’s team are beginning to drift, and they are winless in their last three. On home soil, Il Toro have just 11 goals in 14 games all campaign, and they may not inspire too much confidence ahead of this game.

Il Toro worth opposing?

Despite their inconsistent form, Torino are a desperately short 8/11 for victory in some places, and punters are advised to oppose the hosts with Salernitana offering far better value on the double chance market.

Meanwhile, a low-scoring affair looks likely with six of the visitors’ last eight games – and six of Torino’s last nine – containing under 2.5 goals. Salernitana may be worth backing for a one-goal win.
