Toronto Blue Jays vs Detroit Tigers Predictions

The Blue Jays saw their five-game winning streak end on Thursday night, but they’ve still got plenty to be happy about. They’ve got the hottest hitter in the entirety of the MLB in Edwin Encarnacion and a pitcher who has won five straight in Dickey. The knuckleballer may have had a bit of help, but Dickey has shown pretty good resilience in this stretch. He gave up five runs in the first innings in his last start against the LA Angels, but was then able to post five shutout innings to give the Blue Jays a solid outing and do enough for Toronto to take the win.

The Detroit Tigers have lost five of their last six games with Justin Verlander’s near hitless outing the only bright spot in what has been a tough season. Boyd’s appearance at the mound won’t strike too much confidence into this line-up, he didn’t have the best run with Toronto when he was here, and he’s possibly been worse since heading to Detroit.

      Three Reasons for Betting Tips

      1. Pitching match-up

There’s no mistaking that this has the look and feel of a pitching mismatch. R.A. Dickey has looked better in his last couple of starts and the Blue Jays will be licking their lips at the opportunity of facing former pitcher, Matt Boyd, who has struggled all season long and has a 1-4 record with the Tigers since being swapped out in the David Price deal. He’s going to have a tough task going up against the line-up that has scored more runs than anyone else so far this season.

      2. Blue Jays hot form

Toronto are playing some terrific baseball. They had a five-game winning streak snapped in Texas last night. Some of their bats may have been stopped in that game, but there’s no reason to think that they won’t pick up where they left off and score runs in the manner in which they’ve scored them all season at Rogers Centre.

      3. Rogers’ Centre advantage

The Tigers are under .500 on the road and Toronto are 40-23 at home. We think they’ll start with the AL East title battle firmly in mind and they’ll notch up another win on their home turf.
