      Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal Predictions

Is it classed as fortunate or unfortunate when two top teams who happen to be rivals draw each other in the first possible round in a cup competition?

Either way, we have a North London derby on our hands in the Capital One Cup 3rd Round, and it’s the home side who come into this match in the better spell of form.

Spurs have won their last three games in all competitions and haven’t been beaten since their Premier League curtain raiser against Manchester United.

They haven’t looked at their best though. Last season’s phenomenon Harry Kane has yet to score for Spurs this season, but with Christian Eriksen returning from injury that will surely change soon. New signing Son Heung-Min has made an immediate impact though, scoring twice against Qarabag and then the winner against Crystal Palace.

It will be interesting to see how both teams line up for this matchup. Spurs have a history of reaching the latter stages of the League Cup, whilst Arsene Wenger prefers to field inexperienced youth talents throughout.

But coming off the back of defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea, will Wenger risk making it three losses in a row for his side by putting out his youth squad? Especially considering the fact that it is against their North London rivals.

They will be without Gabriel and Santi Cazorla whatever he decides though after their red cards against Chelsea on Saturday.

Arsenal have the upper hand when it comes to past meetings. Spurs won the last game at White Hart Lane, but before that had won only one of their previous five matches against Arsenal, losing three.

This is a tough one to call. If it was later on in the competition we would know that Wenger would continue fielding his young players throughout. But with this being the first round they are involved in I think there’s a possibility he will put out a strong team.

Even if they do put out a full strength squad it will be a close match, and the fact that Spurs have only lost once at White Hart Lane against Arsenal in five matches, and they are enjoying the better spell of form I’m going to back them to progress. Odds of 6/5 for Spurs to qualify look good value for money as well.
