Tottenham Hotspur vs Morecambe Predictions

  • Spurs have won six of their last seven games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
  • Morecambe have lost eight of their 11 away games in League One.
  • The Shrimps concede on average 2.45 goals per-game on their travels.
  • Dane Scarlett could be handed a rare start and scored one goal in one EFL Trophy outing earlier this season.

Shrimps visit Spurs in FA Cup

Spurs come up against League One outfit Morecambe in the FA Cup third round on Sunday as they look to respond to a disappointing EFL Cup semi-final first leg loss at Chelsea.

It seems unlikely that boss Antonio Conte will stick with anywhere close to the same first XI that went down 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, but even if the Italian makes wholesale changes the Premier League club should still be able to win this tie fairly comfortably.

Spurs a force at home

Tottenham have only lost two home games in all competitions this season and six wins in their last seven in North London, with one draw coming against Liverpool. They may well field a much-changed side on Sunday, but they can still win with some room to spare against a Morecambe side who do not travel well.

The Shrimps have lost eight of their 11 away games in League One and concede on average 2.45 goals per-game on their travels. Morecambe have lost five of their last seven away games and their last four defeats have all been by two or more goals – including a 5-0 mauling at Sunderland – so I’m backing Tottenham to cover a -2 handicap on Sunday and a 4-0 win for the hosts has some appeal in the correct score market. Spurs have won two of their last three home league games 3-0, and may be able to go one better against third tier opponents.

A Scarlett goal has potential

Harry Kane will almost certainly be rested for this cup tie so youngster Dane Scarlett could well be handed a starting spot. The 17-year-old hasn’t managed to score in the Premier League yet but has one goal in one appearance in the EFL Trophy and if he is selected in the first XI could well be a contender for a goal at anytime.
