Tip Reasoning
The North Londoners fell victim to their former hero on Tuesday as Gareth Bale scored for Real Madrid in a 2-0 victory for the Spanish side. Mauricio Pochettino named a strong side with Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and new signing Toby Alderweireld all starting and playing the vast majority of the game.
It was a 2nd pre-season defeat for Spurs in as many matches after they went down 2-1 against the MLS All-Star team last week. With their Premier League campaign kicking off at Old Trafford in less than 72 hours it could be a much weakened side that takes to the field for this game against the Italians and it would be no surprise to see Kane and many of the other likely starters at the weekend sit it out altogether.
Milan were also well beaten on Tuesday night as they went down 3-0 to the hosts Bayern Munich. Goals from Juan Bernat, Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski meant a heavy defeat for the Italians who started with their new strike-force of Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano but struggled to get them into the game.
They changed their entire outfield ten in the 2nd half but the damage had already been done and it was the first real low point in their pre-season preparations. Unlike Spurs, Milan have over two weeks until they are in competitive action when they face Fiorentina in the opening round of Serie A fixtures.
Therefore there is less pressure on them to rest players here although there is little really at stake in the match and it is likely that we will see wholesale changes from both managers. Ryan Mason is a likely starter for Spurs as are new signing Kieran Trippier and Federico Fazio. Milan also have a fair bit of quality to bring in with Phillipe Mexes, Riccardo Montolivo and Suso among those to have only featured in the closing stages on Tuesday night.
This game is unlikely to be played at a high tempo but those who do take to the field will be keen to impress and try to claim a starting place for when the competitive action gets going.
This could be another defeat for Spurs though given the strength in depth that Milan possess after a busy summer spend and the fact that the English club will be far more concerned by their Premier League date on Saturday lunch-time in Manchester. Milan are therefore good value to win the game at 7/5.
