Fading Spurs host the league’s form team
Tottenham’s great start to the season has gone a little off the rails in recent months, with injuries and suspensions playing their part. They remain short on numbers for Sunday’s home meeting with Bournemouth, a side who are flying up the standings.
While Spurs have claimed just 10 points across their last eight games, Bournemouth have charged towards the top-half with the best record in the Premier League. Things are clicking for them under Andoni Iraola and their talented squad is looking really impressive. Can they finish off 2023 with their unbeaten run intact?
Brilliant Cherries can get a result
Iraola’s side have won six of their last seven games and they’ve scored at least twice in each of those games. They’ve gone unbeaten across that seven-game stretch, which has seen them beat Newcastle and Man United alongside taking a point against Aston Villa.
The Cherries come into this having won four straight games, while they’re on a four-game winning streak on the road too. The visitors should be high on confidence coming into this one, while they have a two-day rest advantage over Tottenham and they played at home on Boxing Day, while the hosts were on the south coast on Thursday.
Tottenham could be missing as many as 11 players for this encounter, with Micky van de Ven still amongst them. The defender went off against Chelsea with the score finely poised at 1-1 and Spurs haven’t looked the same since. They lost that clash and have won just three of the eight games since without the Dutch defender. With the Cherries in high-scoring form, they can add to Spurs’ woes.
Solanke can fire visitors on
It’s hard to find a player in the Premier League that can match Dominic Solanke’s run of form. He scored his 12th Premier League goal of the season in their Boxing Day victory, while he had netted in that meeting with Luton which was later abandoned. The striker has scored eight times during Bournemouth’s seven-game unbeaten run, including a hat-trick in their last trip.
Solanke’s price to score anytime is bigger for this clash considering the opposition, but Tottenham’s woeful recent defending has seen them concede 19 times across their last nine games. They’re struggling to keep sides out, so look to the visitors’ in-form striker to net in this clash.
