      Troyes vs Caen Predictions

Things just aren’t falling Troyes way at the moment, and it’s just at the time where they could really do with some luck on their side. They went 1-0 up away to St Etienne last weekend and held that lead for an hour, but suddenly their defence crumbled and allowed Robert Beric to net a six minute brace to turn the game on it’s head.

This 2-1 defeat extends Troyes’ winless run to nine matches in Ligue 1, with them collecting just two points from a possible 27 during this period. As you would expect from a side who have won just two of their 15 Ligue 1 matches in 2018, this has put them in trouble coming towards the end of the campaign.

The hosts sit 18th in the table – The relegation playoff position – and are some way off safety given their recent form. Strasbourg sit four points above them in 17th, whilst Lille are only behind them on goal difference in the automatic drop spots. Even bottom of the table Metz are only three points behind too.

Caen aren’t quite out of trouble, but they will feel confident in their ability to survive if they get a result on Saturday. The visitors come into this game 15th in the table with an eight point cushion on their opponents, so extending that to 11 points on Saturday would all but guarantee their safety.

Unfortunately for the visitors, they aren’t exactly in stellar form themselves. They picked up a point at home to the struggling Toulouse on Wednesday, following on from their stalemate against Metz last weekend. This makes it seven games without a win in all competitions, and whilst their opponents have won just two league games in 2018, Caen’s record of three victories isn’t exactly head and shoulders above them.

Goalscoring has been both of these sides’ major problems this season. In fact, these are the two lowest scoring clubs in Ligue 1, with Troyes netting 28 times in 34 games and Caen managing just 24 in the same amount. To put it simply: We’re not expecting a thriller on Saturday.

Troyes have scored just five goals in their last nine home league games, and face off with a Caen side who have managed a measly eight away goals all season. Eight of the hosts’ last nine home league games have seen fewer than three goals, so backing Under 2.5 Goals here looks the best bet alongside a 0-0 correct score predictions.
