Drogheda United -1

Reason for tip

UCD have lost 18 of 23 games this term and they’re cut adrift at the bottom following a run of 10 defeats in 11. They’ve conceded three or more goals on eight occasions so far this term and with Drogheda already winning both previous meetings this term back them for a comfortable victory on Friday.

Drogheda United 3-0

Reason for tip

UCD have failed to score in six of their last 10 defeats and they’ve been heavily beaten too often this season. Drogheda are expected to outclass the hosts and having hit three in their home win over the league’s bottom side look to Drogheda to pull off a 3-0 victory.

UCD vs Drogheda United Predictions

  • UCD have lost ten of their last 11, conceding three or more goals on eight occasions
  • Drogheda have won this season’s two meetings with UCD

UCD struggles to continue

UCD are having a season to forget and the bookmakers are expecting another tough evening for the League of Ireland’s whipping boys against Drogheda United.

Only two places separate these two in the standings but there is a big gulf in terms of quality as rock-bottom UCD have amassed only nine points from their 23 games, whereas Drogheda have collected 25 points from as many assignments.

Andrew Myler’s hosts have lost 18 of those 23 fixtures and their suspect defence have leaked 61 goals, which them conceding at an average of 2.65 per outing.

Other than springing a minor surprise in a 2-1 win at home to Sligo Rovers at the end of June, UCD have lost ten of their last 11 and they have conceded at least three times in eight of those defeats.

Drogheda are hardly flying but they were able to hold league leaders Shamrock Rovers to a goalless draw last time out, while they also won 2-1 when hosting second-placed St Patrick’s Athletic only four outings ago.

Given they won May’s reverse fixture 3-1 and also prevailed 1-0 here in March, The Drogs are expected to stamp their authority on the contest and backing them to win by two or more goals may be the approach to take.

Confidence looks severely damaged in the ranks of UCD, whose last two games have seen them thrashed 7-0 away at St Patrick’s Athletic and soundly beaten 4-0 when entertaining Shelbourne.

Kevin Doherty’s men should be jumping all over the hosts’ vulnerabilities and correct-score punters can side with a 3-0 away win as UCD have failed to score in six of their last ten reverses.
