Udinese vs Torino Predictions

  • Udinese have gone four matches without a win, losing three and failing to score in their last three.
  • Torino beat Udinese 2-1 earlier this season.
  • The visitors’ only loss in their last five outings came by a single goal at table-topping Inter.

Udinese momentum stalls ahead of Il Toro’s trip

Gabriele Cioffi made a strong impact upon being named Udinese’s caretaker boss before Christmas, but has since seen his Zebrette’s momentum stall. Since the post-Christmas resumption of Italian football, Udinese have lost three and drawn one of their four games, following up a Covid-impacted 6-2 loss to Atalanta with defeats at Juventus and Lazio, and a disappointing draw at Genoa, who are winless in 21 league games.

While Udinese’s recent fixture list has undoubtedly been tough, they created a dreadful 0.1 expected goals against a dire Genoa outfit last time out, and have now gone three matches without a goal. If they continue in this vein, the hosts could be in for a tough evening against one of Cioffi’s former clubs, Torino, on Sunday.

Torino have only lost one of their last five matches, registering a fantastic 4-0 win over Fiorentina as well as results against Sassuolo and Verona. Torino’s home record has been sensational this season; only Inter and Napoli have earned more points at home than Ivan Juric’s men, but there are now signs that their troublesome away record is beginning to improve too. Torino beat Bologna on their last road trip, having also made a decent impression when losing 1-0 at Inter recently.

Visitors can extend decent run of form

Torino beat Udinese 2-1 back in November, and with their strong run of form in mind, they could be worth backing to complete a double this weekend.

Torino’s underlying numbers also look promising; they created a huge 2.8 expected goals in an unfortunate draw with Sassuolo last time out, and have actually won the expected goals battle in 11 of their last 12 competitive games, the only exception being that narrow loss at Inter.

With Udinese failing to score in three successive matches, a 1-0 away win could be a decent correct score punt.
