Ukraine vs Scotland Predictions
- Scotland have lost one of their last five matches, winning the other four.
- Steve Clarke’s team managed 24 shots to Ukraine’s three when thrashing them 3-0 last week.
- Ukraine have only beaten Armenia at ‘home’ since being forced to go on the road for their matches earlier this year.
Scotland enter promotion battle
Goals from Jack Hendry and Ryan Christie ensured Scotland overturned a one-goal deficit to down the Republic of Ireland at Hampden Park on Saturday, and they must simply avoid defeat to second-placed Ukraine to pip Oleksandr Petrakov’s team to promotion to the top tier of the UEFA Nations League. Steve Clarke’s men have been in excellent form of late, and with Ukraine playing in the unfamiliar surroundings of Krakow, they could be set for a successful evening.
Scotland have lost just one of their last five games, winning the other four, and have suffered just two defeats in their last 13 contests – at Ireland and Denmark. Clarke’s team have added attacking flair to their defensive solidity of late, scoring 11 goals and conceding just five in their Nations League games. Scotland hammered Ukraine 3-0 at home just last week, recording 24 shots to the three managed by Petrakov’s team, and will be confident of avoiding defeat in Poland.
Ukraine, meanwhile, thrashed Armenia 5-0 last time out, but have yet to beat a top side since being forced to play their ‘home’ games in Poland earlier this year. Indeed, Ireland – a more limited outfit than the Scots – avoided defeat there in June, and the likes of Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kazakhstan have also done so against Ukraine in the last year.
Visitors set for crucial result
Given Scotland’s fine form and their comprehensive performance against Ukraine last week, backing Clarke’s men to get the result they need by avoiding defeat appears a prudent play.
While we’re backing Scotland on the double chance market as our main tip, a 1-1 draw could represent a decent correct score prediction – five of Scotland’s last eight games have contained goals at both ends.
