Union Berlin vs Slavia Prague Predictions
- Four of these team’s five group games so far have seen over 2.5 goals scored.
- Both of Union Berlin’s home fixtures have witnessed three goals or more.
- Slavia Prague won the reverse fixture 3-1.
All to play for
Second place is there for the taking in Group E of the inaugural Europa Conference League with Union hoping to leapfrog Slavia with a victory in the German capital on Thursday. A draw isn’t enough for the Iron Ones who have been using their rivals Hertha’s ground for the home matches in order to meet European requirements. They were beaten in back-to-back group games but picked up a win over Maccabi Haifa in their most recent outing on the continent and indeed their six points have all come against the Israeli side.
Union defeated the Man City conquering RB Leipzig at the weekend to secure their third win in four matches and they will be confident coming into this game. They have scored in each of their three games against the top two so far in Europe but have conceded eight goals in two games against Feyenoord and their reverse fixture with Slavia Prague. That is why we are expecting goals in this one.
One point is sufficient for the visitors
With Slavia being one point ahead of their hosts heading into the final matchday, a draw will be enough to take the Czech side into the preliminary knockout round in the New Year. They secured a vital point in their last group game with a 2-2 draw against Feyenoord but two defeats away from home leave Slavia with work to do.
They are unbeaten in nine games and have won seven of their last eight in all competitions but the away side are yet to pick up a point on the road and were disappointingly beaten by Maccabi Haifa late last month.
In for a good one
This should be a very lively game with so much at stake and Union have to go for it so it should be an open contest. Both clubs have scored seven goals so far through five group games and eight of the ten games they have played combined have witnessed over 2.5 goals, hence our tip.
Furthermore, both are conceding over a goal a game on average in this season’s competition so I’m expecting plenty of goalmouth action, with 2-2 looking particularly appealing in the correct score market.
