Union Espanola vs Cerro Predictions
Union Espanola managed an impressive victory last week when they visited Uruguay in their Copa Libertadores first leg, coming away with a 3-2 win over Cerro, courtesy of an 89th minute goal from Sebastian Jaime. This marked the third time that Union Espanola were in the lead here, and it came late enough to stifle any chances of Cerro equalising yet again.
This gives the hosts a great chance to progress in the Copa Libertaodores after missing out on the tournament in the past two seasons. They made it through to the group stages that season, before being knocked out as third place finishers.
Cerro have had a longer break from the Copa Libertadores than their opponents. They last took part in 2010 and also made it to the group stages, and this marks just the third time that they have taken part in the tournament.
Unfortunately for the visitors their record in the Copa Libertadores doesn’t exactly promise great things here. They have lost four and drawn two of their last six games in the tournament, and they’re facing a Union Espanola side who have lost just three of their last nine Copa Libertadores matches.
Cerro did manage to start their domestic season off on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Racing, whilst Union Espanola lost 3-0 at home to Colo-Colo. The hosts will need their home leg here to go a bit better than that disaster if they want to make it to the group stages again here.
Last week’s clash in Uruguay illustrated Union Espanola’s rather attack minded approach to football. This doesn’t change on home soil either, with seven of their last nine home games ending with at least three goals scored.
Cerro aren’t a low scoring side either, and considering they need to go on the attack thanks to the hosts’ three away goals, I think a high scoring affair could be on the cards here. Odds of 1/1 for Over 2.5 Goals looks a good value bet, and I’m going for that alongside a 2-2 correct score predictions at 16/1.
