      Uruguay vs Chile Predictions

These sides are 2nd and 3rd in the standings currently with the visitors a point better off and both are above Argentina and Brazil at this early stage in proceedings.

This game could be a really interesting contest between two sides that favour entirely different styles. Chile are the entertainers, who on their day are capable of some blistering attacking football and flare but perhaps at times let themselves down defensively. By contrast Uruguay are built on solid foundations and a strong defence and their more physical nature could get to the Chilean players in the heat of the battle in Montevideo.

Uruguay may feel they have a score to settle following their elimination by Chile in a controversial Copa America Quarter-Final back in June. They have been playing some better football of late too so will definitely fancy this chance to gain revenge, especially with home advantage this time around.

They confidently dispatched Bolivia 2-0 and Colombia 3-0 in their opening matches and were only narrowly beaten 2-1 in Quito by an Ecuador side, who are always very strong at home.

Chile’s 7 match winning run including their Copa America triumph on home soil came to an end last week with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to an out-of-form Colombia. This is the toughest game they’ve faced for some time given they’ve rarely had to leave the comforts of Santiago in recent months and they might just find this a little tricky.

Uruguay are very strong at home and went unbeaten at Estadio Centenario in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, which included a crushing 4-0 home win over Chile. At 11/8 they look good value to secure another win here and leave themselves in a strong position going into the new year.

It’s unlikely to be that convincing though this time around and Chile rarely fail to score so an away goal is possible despite Uruguay’s excellent defence and it might be worth going for a 2-1 home win at odds of 9/1.
